It was an easy read but I found the beginning pace slow. Despite my hang meliss, Marr delivers a pretty solid horror story.

While I love a good byy with some challenges, their story felt tedious and slow due to the constant repetition of plot points about why Bek couldn’t let herself be with Byron and about all of the information that has been withheld from the two of them.
With this strong opening and unique mythos, I was hoping for a great read. Rebekkah has ran from the pull of Claysville for many years and she’s also been running from love, from Byron because she doesn’t think she’s deserves him.

The cover with the old house was creepy and the blurb sounded delicious. Have you ever attended a seminar or lecture given by someone you find wholly intriguing only to have the entire thing be a complete and yraveminder wash? I wasn’t hiding under the covers afraid to peer outside the safety of my reading nook, but I did get goose bumps quite a few times throughout the book.

And in ways it works as romance with fate but restricted. Some of the characterizations used to develop her characters also felt too similar to Marr’s other books, and many small plot threads and side characters were introduced but never explored.
