Moorcock, indeed, makes much use of the initials “JC”, and not entirely coincidentally these are also the initials of Jesus Christ, the subject of his Nebula award-winning novella Behold the Man, which tells the story stesler Karl Glogauer, a time-traveller who takes on the role of Christ. The Albinothe Anthony Skenes character was a huge influence. In the end he achieves only the destruction of his throne, his home, his lover, and his associates. And when he gets bored with terrorizing the Young Kingdoms, he comes back and destroys his homeland. But for me the best of all possible Elric experiences remains the original six-book paperback series, either the yellow-spined DAW editions stealee the Michael Whelan covers or the silver-spined Berkeley editions with the Robert Gould covers.
Elric must seek and acquire powerful Chaos-made artifacts to help him combat Chaos.
Nov 12, Timothy rated it really liked it. Elric is a weak albino who takes drugs and has an evil sword that sucks souls and powers him up. Elric is sent on another quest, this time for the Horn of Fate.
In the next adventure, Elric tries to unite the Eastern and Southern powers for an attack against Pan Tang. Books by Michael Moorcock. The writing is sometimes a bit clumsy unsurprising given that Moorcock was in his early twenties when these were writtenbut the stories are fast-moving and the Doomed Albino Prince still has a sinister mesmeric effect.
There is no triumphalism for Elric in defeating his foe, for he is hardly worth defeating any more.
