I can easily say the same thing about theory- I also didn’t understand a lot about chords and voice leading until i learned it on piano as well. Jazzology is a good alternative, a bit of a lighter read but still covers everything Bert Ligon has two other books, Connecting Chords With Linear Harmony and Comprehensive Technique for Jazz Musicians. Levine and actually buy it, but from what I’ve read on it, it’s an amazing tool for learning jazz theory. No homework help on specific assignments.
